Canada Day is a time of reflection. This year, we reflect not only on our shared experiences and achievements, but also on a history filled with harm, the pain of which continues to be felt today. As a Canadian studio, and a team who lives and works on the unceded lands and waters of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, we are observing Canada Day differently this year.
We will be donating $1,000 to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. The unknown hundreds of Indigenous lives taken by these institutions are an unfathomable loss; while donations alone cannot heal such grief, they will help to provide important services to those affected by the generational trauma inflicted by Canada’s residential schools. We hope you will consider making a contribution of your own.
Beyond donations, we encourage you to take the time to learn about the history of residential schools in Canada, modern anti-Indigeneity, and ways you can make an impact with the Nations in your local area.
