Traditional Chinese Poetry Brought to VR

Posted on 27 October 2016

Archiact has partnered with Chinese studio ETTO Technology Ltd. to bring the traditional Chinese lyric poetry called "Ci" to life in virtual reality. "Ci" uses a set of poetic meters in a fixed-rhythm, fixed-tone, and variable line-length format. The rhythmic and tonal pattern of ci are also based upon certain Chinese musical songs. The "Ci" form of poetry is often used to express the author's feelings from the perspective of an adopted persona.

The author of the particular "Ci" that Archiact and ETTO have brought to virtual reality is named Fan Zhongyan. Zhongyan was a prominant politician and literary figure in China. It has been a great pleasure for the Archiact and ETTO teams to take such a sacred and classic Chinese art form and transform it into a VR experience.

This unique project was developed using a traditional Chinese art style, using many small brush-like strokes. Archiact and ETTO's main goal centred around bringing the traditional poetic form of "Ci" to the modern medium of virtual reality.

This experience is designed for the Oculus Rift, and will be available exclusively in China.
